  • State Legislation: Providing year-round representation for the osteopathic profession at the state Capitol. Both during session and in the interim, OPSO’s full time lobbyist monitors active and potential legislation, while OPSO staff and Board of Directors ensure the voice of the osteopathic profession is heard on health policy issues

    Representation on State Agency and Boards: Ensuring osteopathic representation on state agencies and boards including: The Oregon Medical Board, The Oregon Health Evidence Review Commission, The Oregon Prescription Drug Monitoring Program, and the Oregon Health Authority Workforce Committee

    State Advocacy Day: Organizing state physician advocacy days in Salem that provide opportunities for the profession to directly interact with public officials

    National Legislation: Working collaboratively with national organizations to guide policies that take into account impacts to the osteopathic profession in Oregon

    Policy Development:

    Statewide, working with policy leaders to develop programs that enhance the osteopathic profession. Nationally, working with the American Osteopathic Association, Osteopathic Certifying Boards, and other national groups to ensure Oregon osteopathic physicians thoughts and concerns are considered in board certification requirements, continuing medical education requirements, and other policy issues

    AOA Representation: Representing Oregon’s osteopathic physicians at the AOA House of Delegates, providing opportunities for members to drive national policies

  • These events provide an opportunity for physicians to gain valuable knowledge and skills directly applicable to their personal and professional development. These events provide access to experts, resources, and interactive learning experiences that may not be readily available elsewhere. By participating, members can stay abreast of industry trends, enhance their competencies, and expand their networks, ultimately empowering them to excel in their practices.

    OPSO members have access to workshops, seminars, webinars, and other educational resources – often at discounted registration rates. These events are created based on medical research, national trends, & input from previous conference attendees. This allows OPSO to provide current, relevant education that supports best practices across specialties.

  • Online CME programs & educational events

    The Virtual Osteopathic Conference: The VOC is a national osteopathic virtual continuing medical education (CME) program started in 2021 by the Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons of Oregon and the Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons. Offering 48 credits of both AOA and AMA accredited CME in a flexible format, the VOC has quickly gained popularity and recognition around the country with over 2,000 physicians from throughout the United States attending. The audience includes both DOs and MDs from a wide variety of specialties. Additionally, by hosting educational events online, members can attend from anywhere, eliminating barriers related to travel time and costs. This accessibility allows a broader audience to participate, including those with busy schedules or geographic constraints. Furthermore, virtual platforms facilitate interactive features such as live chats and Q&A sessions, fostering engagement and collaboration among participants. Overall, virtual education events empower members to continue their professional development efficiently and effectively, enhancing their knowledge and skills in a convenient and accessible manner.

    Ask the Expert Series

    The OPSO Ask the Experts series will be short case study presentations. They provide an excellent opportunity for members to engage with subject experts to enhance your practice, medical knowledge, and patient outcomes. These will be informal CME events with opportunities to explore the subject area with your specific needs in mind. All OPSO members are invited to participate including practicing DOs, residents, and medical students.

  • OPSO provides assistance, guidance, and resources for members seeking support re: coding, insurance coverage, and other practice management issues. OPSO produces and tracks relevant education programs both regionally and nationally, to help members with board and licensing compliance. Furthermore, OPSO’s professional support services work to increase member job satisfaction, confidence, and success. OPSO hopes to invest in the growth and prosperity of its members, fostering a thriving community of osteopathic physicians who are dedicated to the principles and practices of osteopathic medicine.

  • Leadership Positions: OPSO offers professionals a chance to cultivate their leadership skills and make a meaningful impact in osteopathic medicine. By participating in various committees, state agencies, or boards, members gain exposure to decision-making processes, policy development, and strategic planning.     Online Directory & Referrals: Referrals – Both for patients and physicians through direct office contacts and online directory. Providing a platform or network for referrals, allows members to tap into a wider pool of potential patients who may require their services. This not only expands their client base but also fosters a sense of trust and credibility within the local DO community, as referrals often come from trusted sources such as fellow healthcare providers or organizations. Additionally, being part of a referral network can streamline the patient acquisition process, allowing members to focus more on providing quality care rather than spending excessive time and resources on marketing efforts. Overall, patient referral sources can significantly contribute to the growth and success of healthcare practices or organizations while benefiting patients by connecting them with reputable providers or services.

    OPSO Heroes of the Community: In recognition of the tireless work of our colleagues, their contributions to the osteopathic profession, and the significant impact they make on the health of their local communities and hospitals. The OPSO, Heroes of the Community awards is designed to recognize the contributions of Oregon physicians who have made a positive impact in the health of their community.

    OPSO DO of the Year: The Oregon DO of the Year is awarded annually to an osteopathic physician in recognition of their outstanding dedication, leadership, and service to the osteopathic profession.

    Student Research Presentation Opportunities & Awards: OPSO fosters the future of the osteopathic profession by offering osteopathic medical students an opportunity to present their research projects in a professional setting surrounded and supported by their future osteopathic colleagues. These opportunities foster professional development, enhance presentation skills, and encourage critical thinking and inquiry among medical students. By participating in research presentations, students gain experience in disseminating their research findings, receiving feedback, and networking with professionals in their field of study.
